【曳山（ひきやま）】動く美術館の美学と、男たちの熱気が交錯する舞台

Hikiyama (Traditional Floats) – Where Moving Art Meets Raw Energy

◯ 高岡御車山祭（高岡市）
　 Takaoka Mikurayama Festival (Takaoka)

加賀藩主・前田家から町民へ与えられた御所車を起源とし、町衆の誇りとともに受け継がれてきた豪華絢爛な7基の御車山が、歴史的町並みを巡行します。精緻な金工・漆工芸の粋を集めた「動く美術館」とも称され、ユネスコ無形文化遺産にも登録されています。富山西部を代表する格式高いお祭りです。

Magnificent floats originating from palanquins granted to the townspeople by the ruling Maeda lords parade through historic streets. Often called a “moving art museum” featuring exquisite metalwork and lacquerware, this festival is inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. It is a prestigious cultural highlight of western Toyama.

◯ 新湊の曳山祭（射水市・新湊地区）
　 Shinminato Hikiyama Festival (Imizu)

見どころは、13基の絢爛豪華な曳山が魅せる「静と動」の美しいコントラストです。狭い街角で民家の壁ギリギリを急旋回する「角回し」では、引き手たちに大きな歓声が沸き起こります。夕方には数百個の提灯が一斉に点灯する圧巻の瞬間を迎え、内川の水面に提灯の黄金色の光がゆらゆらと映り込み、港町全体が幻想的な熱気に包まれます。

The highlight is the stunning contrast between “stillness and motion” created by 13 gorgeous festival floats. During the “tsunomawashi”—a sharp turn where the massive floats graze the very walls of narrow street corners—huge cheers erupt from the pullers. In the evening, hundreds of lanterns are lit all at once in a breathtaking moment, casting their golden reflections across the rippling waters of the Uchikawa River and wrapping the entire port town in a magical, festive atmosphere.

【行燈（あんどん）】夜を彩る光の芸術

Andon (Lantern Festival) – Art of Light Illuminating the Night

◯ 津沢夜高あんどん祭（小矢部市）
　 Tsuzawa Yotaka Ando Festival (Oyabe)

初夏を彩るこのお祭りのハイライトは、極彩色の巨大な行燈と、幻想的な場面が一瞬にして激しい戦いの場へと変わる「ぶつかり合い」です。行燈同士が正面から激突し、相手の美しい行燈を上から激しく押し潰して粉砕し合います。武者絵などが暗闇に美しく浮かび上がる儚い美しさと、地鳴りのような太鼓の音、そして若衆たちの力強い掛け声が交錯し、会場全体が熱気と興奮に包まれます。

The highlight of this early summer festival is the “Clash,” where the stunning, brilliantly colored giant lanterns instantly transform a magical scene into a fierce battleground. The massive lanterns crash head-on, with participants fiercely pushing down and crushing each other’s beautiful lanterns from above. The ephemeral beauty of warrior paintings glowing softly in the darkness contrasts with the earth-shattering sound of taiko drums and the powerful shouts of the young men, wrapping the entire venue in a wave of heat and excitement.

【踊り（おどり）】人々の熱気と一体になる

Odor (Traditional Dance) – Immersed in Local Elegance and Rhythm

◯ 越中おわら風の盆（富山市・八尾）
　 Etchu Owara Kaze no Bon (Toyama)

哀愁を帯びた三味線と胡弓の調べに合わせ、編み笠を深くかぶった男女がしっとりと、かつ艶やかに踊り歩きます。坂の町・八尾の風情ある街並みの中で繰り広げられる幻想的な光景は、国内外の多くの旅行者を魅了し続けています。

Dancers wearing deep straw hats move with elegant, melancholic grace through the atmospheric, sloping streets of Yatsuo, accompanied by the soulful sounds of the shamisen and kokyu. This dreamlike scene continues to captivate travelers from all over the world.

【獅子舞（ししまい）】コミュニティを繋ぐ伝統芸能

Shishimai (Lion Dance) – A Living Tradition That Unites Communities

富山県は「獅子舞王国」とも称されるほど、全国屈指の獅子舞の盛んな地域です。
富山の獅子舞は、単なる伝統芸能ではありません。それは、地域の人々をつなぐ大切な絆です。
地域ごとに異なる多彩な舞や天狗の演出があり、各地域で代々受け継がれてきた獅子舞は、練習や祭りの準備を通じて世代を超えたコミュニケーションを生み、コミュニティの結束を強めてきました。太鼓や笛の音色とともに町中を巡る姿は、まさに地域全体が一つの家族のように結ばれる瞬間です。

Toyama is known as the “Kingdom of the Lion Dance,” boasting one of the highest concentrations of lion dances in all of Japan. But Toyama’s lion dances are much more than just traditional performing arts—they are the vital bonds that connect local people. Featuring diverse styles and unique tengu performances that vary from neighborhood to neighborhood, these dances have been passed down through generations. Through shared practice and festival preparations, they foster communication across age groups and strengthen community ties. As the sounds of flutes and drums echo through the streets, the procession becomes a moment when the entire community unites as one family.

富山には、数百以上ものお祭りがあります。
小さな地区の行事からユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録されているものまで規模はさまざまですが、どれも外国人観光客にとっては新鮮な驚きと魅力に満ちたイベントです。
一方で、富山でも人口減少が進み、お祭りの継続が難しくなっている地域も少なくありません。そのため、現在では地域外からの参加を受け入れたり、外国人の参加を歓迎したりするお祭りも増えてきています。
